Some of you might not even have one, I sure didn’t. My morning before school was a mad scramble full of horrible feelings and not enough preparation. But establishing some order of breakfast, hygiene, and dressing that you enjoy will make a world of difference. And yes, you must absolutely 100% eat breakfast every morning. I don’t know why you wouldn’t, because I think we can all agree food is the best thing ever. My main tip for a badass breakfast would be to have something delicious (maybe your favourite flavour of juice), protein (eggs are perfect), and some fruit or vegetables – any combination of these that you have available and that you feel like having. And remember, every installment is like a step that cooperates with the next. When I stayed up all night eating, I didn’t feel too inclined for breakfast in the morning and it was a downwards spiral from there. No breakfast = no energy = no brainpower = no good feelings.
Besides eating, my greatest challenge in the morning was organizing my appearance in a way that made me feel comfortable with leaving the house – which never really happened. I never saw myself as good enough; as cool enough; as pretty enough; as skinny enough. And for who? I’m still not really sure, but all that self loathing made for a lot of frustration while I tried to do my makeup every morning. If only I’d had someone to tell me what I’m telling you now. The only thing that matters is you. The important thing is just to be comfortable and wear things that make you happy. I had a uniform throughout high school but I loved to accessorize (among other things). However, I found that only when I did things because I liked them rather than to impress others was I ever truly satisfied or happy. Too often when I was a teenager did I try to wear trendy clothes that were too small for me. I wanted to look cool and be fabulous, but really I just felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. It never worked out because I was trying to be like someone else. I always tried again the next day though. I wish I’d put that determination towards something positive for myself.
A pristine hygiene routine is just as important, so you better make it a fun one at that. Obsessed with Iggy Azalea’s new album, or maybe you’re enjoying the nostalgia of a 90’s Party Playlist? Play the entire thing start to finish and get all your toothbrushing, flossing, grooming, and washing in by the time it’s over. Make your mad dash memorable and work on your singing skills!
